About Tic-Tac-Toe
Play classic tic-tac-toe right in your browser, either as two players sharing one device or against an unbeatable computer opponent. Make your moves on the 3x3 grid, and the game instantly detects wins and draws, highlights the winning line, and keeps a running scoreboard across every round you play.
The computer uses the minimax algorithm, so it always plays perfectly. The very best you can do is force a draw. This tool is completely free with no sign-up, and it runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you do is ever sent to a server.
Frequently asked questions
- Is this tic-tac-toe game free to use?
- Yes, it is completely free. There is no sign-up, no account, and no limit on how many games you can play. Just open it and start playing.
- Is my data uploaded or stored anywhere?
- No. The entire game runs locally in your browser. Your moves, the scoreboard, and everything else stay on your device and are never sent to any server.
- Can I really beat the computer opponent?
- No, you cannot beat it. The computer uses the minimax algorithm and always plays the mathematically perfect move. The best possible outcome against it is a draw, which happens if you also play flawlessly.
- How do I play against a friend instead of the computer?
- Use the Mode dropdown and choose 2 Players. Then you and a friend take turns tapping cells on the same screen, with X always going first.
- Can I choose to play as O or go second?
- Yes. In 1 Player mode, use the 'You play as' dropdown to pick X and go first, or O and let the computer move first.
- Does the game keep score across multiple rounds?
- Yes. The scoreboard tracks wins for X, wins for O, and draws, and it keeps counting across rounds. Use New Game to start a fresh board, or Reset Scores to clear the tally.
