- How do you calculate customer acquisition cost (CAC)?
- CAC is your total sales and marketing spend for a period divided by the number of new customers acquired in that same period. For example, spending $10,000 to acquire 200 customers gives a CAC of $50 per customer. The calculator does this instantly and guards against dividing by zero.
- What is a good LTV:CAC ratio?
- A widely cited benchmark is around 3:1 — meaning each customer is worth about three times what it costs to acquire them. Below roughly 3:1 your acquisition is eating into margin, while a ratio well above 5:1 can be excellent but may also hint you are under-investing in growth. Enter your customer LTV to see your ratio and a health note.
- What should I include in sales and marketing spend?
- Include the full cost of acquiring customers over the period: ad spend, marketing tools and software, salaries and commissions for sales and marketing staff, agency fees, and content or creative costs. Using total spend rather than ad spend alone gives a truer, fully loaded CAC.
