About AVIF to PNG Converter
This tool converts AVIF images into lossless PNG files. AVIF is a newer, highly compressed image format that some older apps, editors, and email clients still cannot open, so converting to the widely supported PNG format makes your images usable everywhere. You can convert a single file or drop in a whole batch at once.
It works by asking your browser to decode each AVIF and then redrawing it onto a canvas, which is exported as a PNG. Any transparency in the original is preserved. Because PNG is lossless while AVIF is heavily compressed, the resulting PNG is often larger than the source file — that is normal and expected, not a loss of quality.
Everything happens locally on your device. Your images are never uploaded to a server, so nothing leaves your computer. One thing to note: decoding AVIF relies on your browser's built-in support, so a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari 16 or later is needed. If a file cannot be decoded, the tool will tell you rather than failing silently.

- No. PNG is a lossless format, so the conversion captures exactly what your browser decodes from the AVIF, pixel for pixel. The PNG will often be a larger file than the AVIF because AVIF uses much heavier compression, but no visual detail is lost.
- Is transparency kept when I convert?
- Yes. If your AVIF has an alpha channel (transparent areas), those transparent pixels are carried straight through into the PNG. The preview shows a checkerboard behind the image so you can see any transparency.

- AVIF decoding depends on your browser's built-in support. If you are on an older browser, or the file is corrupt or not actually an AVIF, it cannot be decoded. Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari 16 or later. The tool lists any files it could not convert.
- What size or number of files can I convert?
- There is no fixed limit, but everything is processed in memory in your browser. Very large images or very large batches can use a lot of memory and take longer, so convert extremely large sets in smaller groups if your device slows down.
