About Tile Calculator
The Tile Calculator works out how many floor or wall tiles you need for a project. Enter your area's length and width in feet or meters, your tile size in centimeters, and a waste allowance. It computes the floor area, the area of a single tile, and the total number of tiles required, rounding up so you never come up short.
Add an optional tiles-per-box figure and it also tells you how many boxes to buy. The tool is completely free and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded, saved, or shared anywhere.

- Is my data uploaded or stored anywhere?
- No. Every calculation happens locally in your browser. Your measurements are never sent to a server, saved, or shared, so your project details stay private.
- How many tiles do I actually need?
- Tiles needed = your floor area including the waste allowance, divided by the area of one tile, then rounded up. The default 10% waste covers cuts and breakage; increase it to 15-20% for diagonal or herringbone patterns.
- Why do I enter the room in feet or meters but tiles in centimeters?
- Rooms are usually measured in feet or meters, while tile sizes are printed in centimeters on the packaging. The calculator converts everything to square meters internally so the numbers line up correctly.
- How much waste should I add for tiles?
- A 10% allowance is standard for straight, grid-style layouts. For diagonal, herringbone, or rooms with many corners and cuts, use 15-20% so you have enough tiles to finish and a few spares for repairs.
- How do I calculate the number of boxes to buy?
- Enter the tiles-per-box count shown on the tile packaging. The calculator divides the total tiles needed by that figure and rounds up to give you the number of full boxes to purchase.
