About Mafia Role Assigner
Mafia (called Werewolf in some circles) needs someone to hand out secret roles before every round, and this tool does that job so no one has to shuffle paper slips or trust a friend to deal fairly. Type in how many people are playing, or paste a list of real names one per line, and it lays out the standard cast: Mafia, a Detective, a Doctor, and Villagers for everyone left over. The suggested counts scale with your group — roughly one Mafia for every three or four players — and you can bump any of them up or down before you deal.
Once you hit assign, the roles are shuffled locally and the pass-and-play reveal takes over. Each person taps their own name to see their secret role, taps again to hide it, then passes the phone or laptop to the next player, so a single device is all your table needs. Want a fresh setup for the next round? Re-assign as many times as you like; each deal is independent of the last.

- Yes. Mafia and Werewolf are two names for the same social deduction game — the hidden killers are called Mafia in one version and Werewolves in the other. This assigner works for either, since the roles and rules are identical.
- How does the pass-and-play reveal work?
- After roles are assigned, each player taps their own name to privately reveal their role, then taps again to hide it before handing the device to the next player. One phone or laptop is enough for the whole table.
- How many Mafia should I have?
- A good rule of thumb is about one Mafia per three to four players, plus one Detective and one Doctor. The tool suggests balanced counts and lets you edit them before dealing.
- How many players do I need to play Mafia?
- Mafia usually needs at least five or six people so there are enough Villagers to make the voting interesting, but this tool handles any group size. Enter your headcount and it suggests a balanced mix of Mafia, Detective, Doctor, and Villagers you can adjust.
- What do the roles do?
- Mafia secretly eliminate a player each night, the Detective investigates one player to learn if they are Mafia, the Doctor protects one player, and Villagers vote by day to find the Mafia.
- Can I use real player names?
- Yes. Turn on the names option and enter one name per line, or just use a number and the tool labels players as Player 1, Player 2, and so on.
- How does the tool decide who gets each role?
- It shuffles every player against the role list using your browser's cryptographic random generator, so each deal is genuinely unpredictable. No player is more likely than another to draw Mafia, and the arrangement can't be guessed from previous rounds.
- Can I reshuffle the roles for a new round?
- Yes. Just assign again and the tool deals a completely fresh, independent set of roles. There is no limit, so you can run round after round with the same group without restarting.
