About Cups to Grams Converter

Convert cups to grams (and back) for baking, ingredient by ingredient. Pick flour, sugar, butter, cocoa or another common ingredient, enter your amount in cups, tablespoons, grams or ounces, and get the accurate weight — because a cup of one ingredient weighs nothing like a cup of another.

A cup of all-purpose flour is about 120 g but a cup of granulated sugar is 200 g, which is exactly why a generic volume-to-weight converter can't do this job. It is completely free with no sign-up, and it runs entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I use a normal cups-to-grams converter?
Cups measure volume and grams measure weight, and the relationship depends entirely on the ingredient's density. Without knowing whether it's flour, sugar or honey, a generic converter simply can't give the right weight — which is why this tool asks for the ingredient first.
How many grams is 1 cup of flour?
About 120 g for all-purpose flour measured by the spoon-and-level method. If you scoop straight from the bag you'll pack in more — up to about 150 g — so a scale is the most reliable way.
How many grams is 1 cup of sugar?
Granulated sugar is about 200 g per cup, packed brown sugar about 220 g, and powdered/icing sugar about 120 g. Pick the exact sugar in the tool to get the right figure.
Are these US or metric cups?
US cups (236.6 mL). A UK/Australian metric cup is 250 mL, so it holds about 6% more — if a recipe uses metric cups, weigh in grams to be safe.
Why do my flour measurements keep varying?
Flour compresses, so how you fill the cup changes the weight a lot. Spooning it in lightly and levelling gives ~120 g/cup; scooping packs it to ~150 g. For consistent baking, weigh in grams.
