About Profit Margin Calculator

The Profit Margin Calculator turns a cost and a selling price into three numbers instantly: your profit in dollars, your profit margin as a percentage of revenue, and your markup as a percentage of cost. Results update live as you type, with dividing-by-zero handled gracefully.

It is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded or stored on a server, so you can price products, quote jobs, and check deal profitability privately and as often as you like.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Profit Margin Calculator free?
Yes, it is completely free to use with no sign-up, account, or limits.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. All calculations run entirely in your browser, and the numbers you enter never leave your device.
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit as a percentage of the selling price (revenue), while markup is profit as a percentage of the cost. The same profit produces a lower margin than markup.
How is profit margin calculated?
Profit is revenue minus cost, and margin is that profit divided by revenue, multiplied by 100 to get a percentage.
Why does margin or markup show a dash?
To avoid dividing by zero, margin requires a revenue above zero and markup requires a cost above zero. If either is zero, that percentage shows a dash.
Can I use it for any currency?
Yes. The math works with any currency, and the percentages are currency-independent, so just enter your cost and price in whatever currency you use.
