About ROI Calculator
The ROI Calculator works out your return on investment from two numbers: the amount you invested and the amount you got back. It instantly shows your ROI percentage, net profit or loss, and total returned in a clean stat grid. Add an optional holding period in years and it also calculates your annualized (compound) ROI so you can compare investments of different lengths fairly.
It's completely free, needs no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or stored anywhere, so your numbers stay private on your own device.
Frequently asked questions
- How is ROI calculated?
- ROI is (amount returned − amount invested) ÷ amount invested × 100, expressed as a percentage. For example, investing $1,000 and getting back $1,500 gives a net profit of $500 and an ROI of 50%.
- What is annualized ROI and when does it show?
- Annualized ROI is the equivalent compound yearly return over your holding period, calculated as (returned ÷ invested)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. It appears only when you enter a holding period greater than zero years and the amount returned is above zero, letting you compare investments held for different lengths of time.
- Is this ROI calculator free?
- Yes, it is completely free to use with no sign-up, no account, and no limits on how many calculations you can run.
- Is my data uploaded or stored anywhere?
- No. Every calculation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your invested amount, returned amount, and holding period are never sent to a server, saved, or shared.
- Can ROI be negative?
- Yes. If the amount returned is less than the amount invested, your ROI is negative and the tool shows the result as a net loss instead of a net profit.
- What currency does the calculator use?
- Amounts are formatted in US dollars (USD). The percentages and ratios work the same for any currency, so you can read the ROI and annualized figures no matter what money you invested.
