About Forex Pip Calculator
This forex pip calculator works out how much one pip is worth for a given currency pair, position size and account currency. Enter the base and quote currencies, choose a lot size (standard, mini, micro, nano, or custom units), type the number of lots and the current pair price, and it shows the pip value in both the quote currency and your account currency, plus the value of 10 pips.
The math is standard: pip value equals the pip size (0.0001 for most pairs, 0.01 for JPY-quoted pairs) multiplied by the number of units traded, giving a value in the quote currency. When your account currency matches the quote currency no conversion is needed; when it matches the base currency the value is divided by the current pair price; and when it differs from both, you supply a quote-to-account conversion rate so the result lands in your own currency.
Everything runs locally in your browser. There are no live price feeds, so you enter the current pair price and any conversion rate yourself, which means results are only as accurate as the numbers you type. Nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
- How is pip value calculated?
- Pip value equals the pip size times the number of units in your position, giving a figure in the quote currency. The pip size is 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for pairs quoted in JPY. That quote-currency amount is then converted into your account currency using the pair price or a conversion rate you provide.
- Why do JPY pairs use a different pip size?
- Pairs quoted in Japanese yen (like USD/JPY) are priced to two decimal places, so one pip is 0.01 rather than the 0.0001 used for pairs priced to four or five decimals. The calculator detects a JPY quote currency and applies 0.01 automatically.
- Do I need to enter a conversion rate?
- Only when your account currency is different from both currencies in the pair. If your account currency matches the quote currency, no conversion is needed; if it matches the base currency, the tool divides by the pair price. Otherwise it asks you for how many account-currency units equal one quote-currency unit.
- Are the results based on live market prices?
- No. The tool is fully offline and has no price feed. You enter the current pair price and any conversion rate, so the accuracy of the pip value depends entirely on the numbers you provide. For a live trade, use the current market price from your broker.
- What lot sizes does it support?
- Standard (100,000 units), mini (10,000), micro (1,000), nano (100), and a custom-units option where you type the exact number of units. The pip value scales directly with the total units traded.
- Is my data private?
- Yes. All calculations happen in your browser. No currency pairs, position sizes, or prices are uploaded, stored, or shared with any server.
