About Business Days Calculator
Count the working days between two dates, or project a deadline forward from a start date. In counting mode you pick a start and end date and see how many business days (Monday to Friday) fall between them, shown next to the total days and the weekend days, with any holidays you add subtracted from the working total. In add mode you enter a start date and a number of business days to land on the resulting date, skipping weekends and holidays as it steps. It answers the everyday questions people search for: how many business days are between two dates, what date is a given number of workdays from now, or simply how many workdays sit in a stretch of the calendar.
There are no built-in country calendars, so it isn't locked to one region. To count US business days you add the federal holidays yourself with the holiday picker, and the same list just as easily covers a UK bank holiday, a company shutdown, or a block of personal leave. That also makes it a quick browser stand-in for an Excel NETWORKDAYS formula when you'd rather not open a spreadsheet — pick two dates, add your days off, and read the number.
The calculator is completely free with no sign-up, and it runs entirely in your browser. Your dates and holiday list are never uploaded to a server, and everything is computed in your local time zone so the result never drifts by a day.
Frequently asked questions
- Are the start and end dates included?
- In counting mode both ends are included, so Monday the 1st through Friday the 5th is five business days. In add mode the start date is never counted — adding one business day to a Monday gives Tuesday.
- How many business days are between two dates?
- Switch to counting mode, pick the two dates, and the business-days figure is the number of Monday-to-Friday days between them with any holidays you added removed. Both the start and end date are counted, so a Monday-to-Friday span comes to five business days.
- Which days count as business days?
- Monday to Friday, minus any dates on your holiday list. Saturday and Sunday are always excluded and the working week is not configurable, so a Sunday-to-Thursday week or a six-day schedule is not supported.
- Does it know public holidays automatically?
- No. There are no built-in holiday calendars for any country — you add each date yourself with the holiday picker, which is what lets it cover any country, company shutdown, or block of personal leave. The list applies to both modes and is cleared when you reload the page.
- Does it calculate US business days?
- Yes, once you add the holidays. There's no built-in US calendar, so you enter the federal holidays — New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and the rest — into the holiday list yourself. Adding them by hand is exactly what lets the same tool serve a different state or company that observes its own days off.
- How do I calculate business days in Excel instead?
- In Excel the =NETWORKDAYS(start, end, [holidays]) function counts weekdays between two dates and lets you pass a range of holiday cells to skip. This tool does the same job without a spreadsheet: pick your start and end date, add any holidays, and read the count. It's the quicker option when you just need the number and don't want to set up a formula.
- What does the "Holidays excluded" number mean?
- It counts only the holidays that landed on a weekday inside your range. A holiday falling on a Saturday is already excluded as a weekend day, so it is never subtracted twice.
- Can I count backwards or subtract business days?
- Both. In add mode, a negative number walks backwards from the start date. In counting mode, an end date earlier than the start date is handled automatically — the range between them is measured and the result note tells you it did that.
- What if my start date is a weekend or a holiday?
- Add mode still works: it steps forward or back from that date and counts only the business days it lands on, so adding one business day to a Saturday gives the following Monday. The note under the result says whether your start date was itself a business day.
- Why don't the results shift by a day the way some date tools do?
- Dates are built from their year, month and day parts in your own time zone instead of being parsed as UTC timestamps, so there is no midnight rollover. The date you pick is the date it uses, wherever you are.
- Is there a limit on how long a range can be?
- Yes. Both modes step through the calendar one day at a time and stop at 400,000 days — roughly 1,100 years. Beyond that you get a message asking for closer dates or a smaller number, rather than a frozen page.
