Spelling is checked against a 168,000-word English dictionary with ranked one-click corrections, and a set of grammar and style rules catches the mistakes people actually make: repeated words, “a” vs “an” mix-ups, “should of” instead of “should have”, doubled or missing spaces, spacing around punctuation, sentences that don’t start with a capital, a lowercase “I”, and wordy phrases you could tighten. Every issue is listed with a suggested fix, and “Fix all fixable” cleans up the mechanical ones in a single click.
Unlike most online checkers, nothing you type is uploaded. The dictionary loads once (about 1.6 MB, then cached) and every check runs locally, so your text never leaves your device — it even works offline after the first load. It’s free, needs no sign-up, and is rule-based rather than AI: it reliably catches common spelling and grammar errors, but it won’t rewrite sentences or judge tone. - No. The dictionary is downloaded once and cached, and every spelling and grammar check runs locally in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, saved, or shared — you can even use the tool offline after the first load.
- Does it check grammar or only spelling?
- Both. Spelling is checked against a 168,000-word dictionary with suggestions, and grammar and style rules flag repeated words, “a/an” errors, “could of” for “could have”, spacing and punctuation slips, missing sentence capitals, a lowercase “I”, and wordy phrases.
- Is it as good as Grammarly?
- It’s honest about what it is: a fast, private, rule-based checker. It catches the large majority of real spelling and grammar mistakes, but it doesn’t use AI to rewrite sentences or judge nuance and tone. Treat it as a strong first pass rather than a replacement for a careful human proofread.
- Why is a correctly spelled name flagged?
- Proper nouns and brand names usually aren’t in a standard dictionary, so they can be flagged. By default the tool ignores capitalised words in the middle of a sentence (likely names); you can switch that off, or click “Ignore word” to skip a specific one for the rest of your session.
- What languages are supported?
- English only, for now. Both the spelling dictionary and the grammar rules are built for English text.
- Is there a limit on how much text I can check?
- There’s no hard limit — it comfortably handles long documents in the browser. Very large pastes of tens of thousands of words simply take a moment longer to scan.
