Word to PDF opens a .docx file, unpacks it with the mammoth library, and turns the document's structure into clean HTML — headings, paragraphs, bold and italic, bulleted and numbered lists, tables, hyperlinks, footnotes and inline images. That HTML is sanitised and shown as a preview so you can check it, then laid out into a real PDF that downloads straight to your device. If you would rather, the same preview can be sent to your browser's print dialog, where Save as PDF is one of the destinations. It runs free in the browser with no Adobe Acrobat, no Microsoft Word and no sign-up.
The conversion is deliberately content-first. Mammoth reads Word's semantic styles rather than pixel positions, so a file written with proper Heading 1 and Heading 2 styles converts cleanly, while one that fakes headings with bold 18-point text comes out as plain paragraphs. A common use is turning a CV or an essay drafted in Word into a PDF for an application portal that refuses .docx uploads, without opening a desktop app.
The honest caveat is page layout: manual page breaks, headers and footers, columns, text boxes, exact fonts, colours and margins are not reproduced, and the PDF uses its own consistent typography. - Headings are detected from Word's built-in Heading styles. Text that was simply made bold and larger by hand is exported as a paragraph. Apply Heading 1 or Heading 2 in Word and reconvert.

- Yes. Inline pictures are extracted from the .docx and placed in the PDF at the point where they appear in the text, scaled to fit the page width if needed.
- Are tracked changes and comments included?
- Comments are dropped. If the document still has unresolved tracked changes, accept or reject them in Word first so the converted text reflects the version you want.
