About Take-Home Pay Calculator
This take-home pay calculator estimates your net paycheck after taxes and common deductions. Enter your gross pay and how often you are paid, pick your filing status, and add a 401(k) percentage, a flat state tax rate, and any other per-paycheck deductions. It converts everything to an annual figure, applies 2025 U.S. federal income tax brackets with the standard deduction for your filing status, adds Social Security and Medicare (including the 0.9% additional Medicare tax for high earners), and shows both your take-home amount per paycheck and a full annual breakdown.
Federal tax is progressive and uses the bracket that applies to each slice of your taxable income. Pre-tax 401(k) contributions lower your income for federal and state tax, but Social Security and Medicare are still calculated on your full gross wages, which the tool handles correctly. State income tax is applied as a single flat rate you type in, so it is an approximation rather than a state-specific bracket calculation.
Everything runs privately in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded or stored, and there are no network calls. Treat the result as a planning estimate, not tax advice: it does not include tax credits, itemized deductions, local city taxes, or state-specific rules, so your actual paycheck may differ.
Frequently asked questions
- How accurate is this take-home pay estimate?
- It is a close planning estimate for a typical W-2 wage earner using 2025 federal brackets, the standard deduction, and FICA rates. It is less exact for state taxes, since those are entered as one flat rate rather than each state's own brackets, and it excludes tax credits, itemized deductions, and local taxes.
- Does it handle 401(k) and pre-tax deductions correctly?
- Yes. A 401(k) or pre-tax percentage reduces the income used for federal and state income tax. Social Security and Medicare are still calculated on your full gross pay, which matches how real payroll works.
- Can I calculate take-home pay per paycheck?
- Yes. Choose your pay frequency (yearly, monthly, twice a month, every two weeks, or weekly) and the calculator shows your estimated net pay for that period, plus net per month and per year.
- Which filing statuses are supported?
- Single, married filing jointly, and head of household. Each uses its own 2025 federal brackets, standard deduction, and additional-Medicare-tax threshold.
- Is my salary information private?
- Yes. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your numbers are never sent to a server, saved, or shared, and it works with no sign-up.
- Why doesn't it match my paycheck exactly?
- Real paychecks vary with W-4 withholding choices, employer benefits, HSA and other pre-tax items, state and local rules, and rounding. This tool gives a clean estimate of the major deductions rather than a to-the-penny withholding calculation.
