About Burn Rate Calculator

A burn rate calculator shows how fast your company is spending cash and how long that cash will last. Enter your cash on hand, your total monthly expenses (cash out), and your monthly revenue (cash in). The tool computes your gross burn (total money leaving each month), your net burn (expenses minus revenue), and your runway โ€” the number of months before you run out of cash โ€” along with the approximate month your balance hits zero.

The math is straightforward: net burn = monthly expenses โˆ’ monthly revenue, and runway = cash on hand รท net burn. If your revenue meets or exceeds your expenses, you are cash-flow positive, so the tool reports an effectively unlimited runway while still showing your gross burn, which matters if revenue drops. The projection assumes your current burn and revenue stay flat โ€” it does not model growth, seasonality, one-off costs, or new funding rounds, so treat the runway date as a planning estimate rather than a forecast.

Everything runs privately in your browser. Your financial figures are never uploaded or sent anywhere โ€” there are no accounts, no tracking of your numbers, and the calculation happens entirely on your device.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between gross burn and net burn?
Gross burn is the total cash your company spends each month (payroll, rent, tools, everything). Net burn subtracts your monthly revenue from that, showing how much cash you are actually losing. Runway is based on net burn, since incoming revenue offsets what you spend.
How is runway calculated?
Runway = cash on hand รท net monthly burn. If you have $500,000 in the bank and burn a net $80,000 per month, your runway is about 6.25 months. The tool also estimates the calendar month your cash reaches zero, counting forward from today.
What if my revenue covers my expenses?
Then your net burn is zero or negative and you are cash-flow positive, so the tool shows an effectively unlimited runway. It still displays your gross burn, because that is the exposure you would face if revenue fell.
How accurate is the runway estimate?
It is a straight-line projection that assumes your current expenses and revenue stay flat. Real runway shifts with hiring, growth, seasonality, one-time costs, and funding. Use it as a planning baseline and re-run it whenever your numbers change.
Are my financial numbers private?
Yes. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or sent to any server, and there is no sign-up or account required.
Which currency should I use?
Pick any of the supported currencies from the dropdown โ€” it only changes how the results are formatted. Keep your cash, expenses, and revenue all in the same currency for the numbers to make sense.
