About Currency Converter

The Currency Converter turns an amount in one currency into another using the daily reference rates published by the European Central Bank. Type a figure, choose the currency you have and the one you want, and it shows the converted amount, the exact rate both ways (1 USD in EUR and 1 EUR in USD), and the date the rates were set. A Swap button flips the pair in one click.

It covers more than 30 of the world's most-used currencies — the US dollar, euro, British pound, Japanese yen, Indian rupee, Australian and Canadian dollars, Swiss franc, Chinese yuan and many more. The rates are the same ECB reference rates most banks build their pricing on, refreshed once each working day around 16:00 CET, so a figure checked over a weekend or holiday shows the last published set. They are meant for information and quick estimates, not the exact rate a bank, card or bureau de change will hand you, since those add a margin on top.

The amount you enter is converted right in your browser; only the day's rate table is fetched, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored. It is free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many conversions you make.

Frequently asked questions

Is the currency converter free to use?
Yes, it is completely free with no account, sign-up or usage limits. Convert as many amounts and currency pairs as you like.
How up to date are the exchange rates?
They are the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, refreshed once each working day at around 16:00 Central European Time. Because the ECB does not publish on weekends or public holidays, a rate you check then is the most recent working-day value, shown with its date so you always know how fresh it is.
Which currencies can I convert between?
Over 30 major currencies, including the US dollar (USD), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), Japanese yen (JPY), Indian rupee (INR), Australian and Canadian dollars, Swiss franc, Chinese yuan, Singapore and Hong Kong dollars, and many European and emerging-market currencies.
How do I convert, say, USD to EUR?
Enter the amount, set From to USD and To to EUR, and the converted figure appears instantly along with the exact rate. Use the Swap button to flip it to EUR to USD without retyping.
Can it convert popular pairs like yen to USD, pesos to dollars or CAD to USD?
Yes. Set From to the currency you have and To to the one you want — Japanese yen (JPY) to US dollars, Mexican pesos (MXN) to dollars, Canadian dollars (CAD) to US dollars, Chinese yuan (CNY) to USD, and so on. It shows the converted amount plus the live rate in both directions, and Swap flips the pair in one click.
Are these the exact rates my bank or card will give me?
No. These are the ECB reference (mid-market) rates, which is the fair benchmark rate. Banks, cards and exchange bureaus add a margin or fee on top, so the amount you actually receive will be a little less. Treat this as an accurate estimate, not a quote.
Where do the rates come from?
From the European Central Bank, fetched through the free, open Frankfurter API. The ECB is the same source most financial sites and banks reference for their daily rates.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The only thing fetched is the day's public rate table; the amount you type is converted locally in your browser and is never sent to or stored on a server.
Why don't the rates change on weekends?
The European Central Bank only publishes reference rates on working days, so Saturday, Sunday and public holidays show the last available weekday rate. The date shown tells you exactly which day's rates you are seeing.
Can it convert cryptocurrency like Bitcoin?
No. This converter handles traditional (fiat) currencies from the ECB list only. Cryptocurrencies move constantly and come from different data sources, so they are not included.
