About Perfume Split Calculator
Splitting a bottle is how a lot of people try — and afford — nicer fragrance: one person buys the full bottle, then shares it out into smaller decants for friends or an online split group. The hard part is the money. This calculator does it properly. Enter the bottle's size and price and it works out the price per ml, then charges each person for exactly the millilitres they take. Shipping, atomiser vials and labels go in a separate box, and you choose whether to split those extras evenly per person or in proportion to how much each one takes.
Because you (the organiser) front the bottle and keep whatever is left over, the tool also shows the number that actually matters to you: after collecting everyone's share, what your own leftover ml really costs — total and per ml. Over-claim the bottle and it warns you before you promise more than it holds. The second mode answers the other everyday fragrance question — is a decant worth it? Put in a full bottle's price and size next to a decant's price and size and it compares their cost per ml, shows the premium you're paying for the small size, and gives a plain-English verdict. - How do you split the cost of a perfume bottle fairly?
- Charge by volume. Divide the bottle price by its size to get a price per ml, then multiply by the millilitres each person takes. Someone taking 30 ml of a 100 ml bottle pays for 30 ml, not a flat third. This calculator does that automatically and adds each person's share of shipping and vials on top.
- Who pays for shipping, vials and labels in a fragrance split?
- That's up to the group, so the tool lets you choose. "Evenly per person" divides the extras equally between everyone buying in; "by ml taken" charges more to whoever takes more juice. Evenly is the most common convention for online splits.
- How much does the person hosting the split actually pay?
- You front the full bottle plus extras, collect everyone's share, and keep the leftover ml. The calculator shows your net cost for that leftover and what it works out to per ml — usually the whole reason to host a split is that your own portion ends up cheaper than buying a decant of it.
- How much should a 5 ml perfume decant cost?
- As a rule of thumb, a decant runs about 1.3× to 1.8× the full bottle's price per ml once you account for the vial, labour and the seller's margin — so a fragrance that's roughly $1.50/ml in the bottle is a fair deal around $10–13 for 5 ml. - Is buying a decant cheaper than a full bottle?
- Per ml, almost never — decants cost more per millilitre because someone splits, bottles and labels them. What a decant saves you is the total outlay and the risk of committing to a bottle you might not love. The value mode shows both numbers so you can decide.
- What does "cost per ml" mean?
- It's the price of the fragrance divided by how many millilitres you get — the honest way to compare a 50 ml bottle, a 100 ml bottle and a decant, which otherwise all have different sticker prices. Lower cost per ml is better value for the same juice.
